Hung Hsiu-chu is a legislator for Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang and the deputy speaker of the Legislative Yuan. Nicknamed the "Little Chili Pepper" for her petite stature and strident political style, Hung was an educator for more than a decade before venturing into politics. She has been a legislator since 1990 and on June 14 became the KMT's only valid candidate for the presidential election in January 2016 after passing the party's 30% threshold for the primary polls.
