Li Hongzhong is the Communist Party secretary of Hubei province. A native of Changle in Shandong province. He was born in 1956 and joined the party in 1976. He graduated from Jilin University with a bachelor's in history in 1982.
Li began his career with the Shenyang municipal government and subsequently moved to Huizhou, where he was made deputy mayor and later mayor. He also held leading party posts in the southern city. He has served three terms as vice governor of Guangdong province. He was mayor of Shenzhen, secretary of the city's party committee, and an alternate member of the 16th CPC Central Committee. Between 2008 and 2010 he was the governor of Hubei province.
Li was an alternate member of the 17th CPC Central Committee. In 2010 he became Hubei's party secretary and in 2011 he became the director of the Hubei Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee. He is also a member of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
