Gigi Chao, the daughter of Hong Kong tycoon Cecil Chao, has received over 1,500 love letters from suitors after her father offered US$65 million to the man who will marry her, despite the fact that she is a lesbian and married her long-term partner in France several years ago.

The 76-year-old Cecil Chao, chairman of Cheuk Nang Holding, has made headlines around the world this week for his offer and has been accused of hypocrisy for insisting on a traditional view of marriage where his daughter is concerned, given that he has fathered three children by different women and claims to have slept with over 1,000 women.

When asked why he could not accept his daughter's choice, he replied, "I didn't say I will not let her get married. I just helped her looked for a potential spouse. How can she marry a woman? It's impossible and illegal," according to on.cc, a Hong Kong news website.

Gigi says she has been annoyed by the hundreds of letters and invitations she has received via Facebook and email. As to whether she would go on a date set up for her by her father, she said she would not bother to think about it until it really happens, reported the website.

An internet user from Montreal said she would leave her husband and pretend to be a man to marry Gigi. "Jack Sprat" in London said, "I will break up with my partner, held a false wedding with her and get divorced," according to on.cc.
