A passenger on a flight from Sanya to Chongqing on March 28 mistook the emergency door for the lavatory and opened it before takeoff, leading to all passengers being evacuated, reports the Sin Chew Daily, a Chinese-language newspaper in Malaysia.
A passenger wanted to go to the lavatory and mistakenly opened the emergency door on Sichuan Airlines 3U8759, which was to take off around 10am and head from Sanya in the southern island province of Hainan for Chongqing. The escape slide deployed accordingly, and all passengers were evacuated.
One passenger live-posted about the incident on Sina Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter.
The post has drawn a large response online, with other netizens asking how an emergency door could be opened so easily. The airline said the incident is still under investigation.
