Japanese appliance manufacturer Daikin Industries has excluded the Chinese market from a recent recall of 53 types of air purifiers, continuing what many view to have become a convention among Japanese companies.
Daikin announced on its official website that the list of air purifiers would be recalled in light of evidence that they can cause fires. The announcement does not mention the specific areas in which the recall will be applied.
The person in charge of Daikin's China operations said that purifiers sold in the country are different from those that have been recalled and do not have the same problems.
While companies recall products for a host of reasons, multinationals often do not extend recalls to the Chinese market. Many believe that the country's lack of sophisticated recall systems and regulations leads companies to have lower product quality standards for operations in China.
