According to Russian military press, Pakistan on Dec. 12 revealed the delivery of its second ZDK-03 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft from China.
The report said China has pledged to supply four of the aircraft for the Pakistani air force. The ZDK-03 aircraft is a variant of China's Y-8 medium range transport produced by the Shaanxi Aircraft Manufacturing Company, a version of the Russian An-12 military transport aircraft.
Facing challenges from India and other neighboring countries, Pakistan has relied heavily on China to aquire new weapons systems for decades. The price of arms from China is considered by Islamabad to be much cheaper than arms from the United States.
China and Pakistan have also jointly developed the JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter aircraft.
