Almost every one of Taiwan's 95 entries won a medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva as innovations from the country continue to attract a large number of visitors at the annual event, the head of Taiwan's delegation said Friday.

In an award ceremony late Friday, Taiwanese inventors received 37 gold medals, 39 silvers, 16 bronzes and 6 special awards, said Chen Tsung-tai, vice chairman of Taiwan Invention Association.

The inventions recognized by a special award include a far infrared-based facial mask and a walking stick with a directional indicator, Chen said in a telephone interview.

Taiwan's inventions were praised by the judges for their functionality and for their success in cross-industry cooperation, he said.

The 53 stalls set up by 16 schools and 11 companies from Taiwan were among the most visited areas in the exhibition, Chen added.

The annual fair, which is considered the world's largest marketplace for inventions, opened April 2 and will run through April 6. The inventions of more than 700 companies, schools and individual inventors from 45 countries were displayed this year.

Taiwan has taken part in the event on a regular basis and often comes away with dozens of medals. This year, a 65-member Taiwanese delegation showcased a total of 95 inventions.
