New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has been honored as the world's most influential ethnic Chinese sports figure in 2011-2012, becoming the first athlete of Taiwanese descent to win the award.
Lin won the You Bring Charm to the World Award in the sports category, presented by Phoenix Television in China.
"I feel sorry for not being able to be present at the ceremony due to the NBA season," Lin said in Chinese in a prerecorded video played at the ceremony in Beijing on Saturday.
He said he was grateful for the honor and the support and encouragement he has received from the Asian community.
The Phoenix Television awards have been handed out for the past five years in cooperation with worldwide Chinese-language media in a number of categories — technology, public affairs, sports, the arts, lifetime achievement and rising stars.
