Electronics retailer Suning Appliance's online shopping portal is expected to launch an internet gaming service soon, according to Chinese internet giant Sina's tech news website.
The company has signed an agreement with a well-known online game developer to take Suning into the profitable gaming world.
Li Bin, the company's executive vice president, said he set the strategy of "beyond electrical appliances" in 2012 and had targeted future cooperation with a big name in the local online gaming market if the numbers added up.
Suning has an advantage over its competitors in its access to capital and greater brand recognition and is expected to greatly increase the scale of its gaming partner through the move, analysts said.
The company last year also launched services such as airline tickets booking and insurance sales. The company will reportedly expand into logistics and cloud services at some point in the future.
