Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council minister, Wang Yu-chi, and China's chief negotiator with Taiwan, Chen Deming, will meet in Taipei on Feb. 27, according to sources in the Taipei-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF).

It will be the first meeting between Wang and Chen, president of China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), since they took up their respective posts.

During the meeting, Wang and Chen are expected to talk mainly about issues pertaining to economic and trade cooperation across the strait, the sources said.

The SEF and ARATS are two intermediary bodies that handle cross-strait negotiations in the absence of official ties.

The meeting between Wang and Chen will take place after the 10th round of SEF-ARATS talks, scheduled for Feb. 27 in Taipei. During the talks, Taiwan and China will sign two agreements on meteorological and seismic monitoring cooperation.

Leading an ARATS delegation, Chen will fly to Taiwan on Feb. 26 for the cross-strait talks and is scheduled to return home on Feb. 28, according to the SEF.
