The most popular sex doll in China does not bear the face of Chinese movie actress Fan Bingbing or Japanese porn star Sora Aoi but Taiwan's top model Lin Chi-ling, reports our Chinese-language sister paper China Times.
The number of dolls matching a search for the Taiwanese model on Taobao, China's leading shopping website, was around 620, compared to 502 for Fan and only 175 for Aoi. Actress Yang Mi, who rose to fame for her role in TV period dramas Chinese Paladin 3 and Palace, has only eight imitation dolls to her credit, China Times noted.
Lin's popularity was reaffirmed recently when a Chinese shopping website auctioned a "lifelike" sex doll of the 38-year-old model. The number of bidders set a new record on the website and the price was pushed beyond 10,000 yuan (US$1,600).
Lin, who is known for her gentle demeanor and high emotional intelligence, responded to the popularity of her sex doll with good grace. "Thank you all for your support, but please remember it's not the real me!" she said.
Lin's agent said the model and her agency welcomed the support but noted that the dolls are a clear infringement of the model's image rights and will not rule out taking legal action in serious cases.
